主讲人简介:蒋仁进,男,博士,天津大学应用数学中心教授,博士生导师。2012年毕业于芬兰Jyvaskyla大学,2014-2015获欧盟Marie-Curie基金资助访问巴塞罗那自治大学。主要研究方向是调和分析及在度量几何、偏微分方程中的应用。目前已在Comm. Pure Appl. Math.J. Math. Pures Appl.Math. Ann.等国际期刊上发表论文三十余篇,主持及参加国家自然科学基金三项。

 

报告内容简介:大致在公元前八世纪至公元前六世纪的古希腊文明时期,人们就会思考这样的问题:用给定的一个绳子,如何圈出一个面积最大的区域? 这著名的跑马圈地问题实际上是同一个问题。这个问题直到二十世纪才有严格意义上的数学证明。而随着数学(特别是几何)及物理的发展,这个问题在不同的背景中又衍生出新的发展方向。在这个报告中,我们将介绍这个问题的一些历史、相关的发展及存在的问题。

Abstract: How to enclose an area of largest volume by a given rope? The problem has been raised not later than the period of ancient Greek, about eighth century to sixth century BC. Mathematically, this question is to ask how is the relation between the length of perimeter and the volume of the enclosed area? This is also equivalent to the well-known problem, that how to enclose a largest land by riding a horse in a fixed period? As our knowledge of mathematic as well as physics grows, the problem has been derived and studied in various background. In this lecture, we will introduce some history, developments as well as remaining issues about the question.
