Lecture: From “Key Disciplines” to “First-Class Disciplines”: A Historical Review of Interdisciplinary Imbalances in the Construction of “Key Disciplines” in China
When: 12:30 p.m., Friday, 11/02/2018
Where: A333, 50 Building, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Beiyang campus.
About the Lecture:
Based on the ratio between the catalogue of disciplines and the selection of key disciplines in China, this study indicates: when discipline construction in China moving from “key construction” to “first-class construction” during the passing thirty years, science and engineering were given "top priority" all the time, and economics as a new force suddenly rises, but comparing with them, education, law and literature were continuously neglected. Interdisciplinary imbalances in the progress of key-discipline construction in China are related to the different roles played by different disciplines in our country's long-term construction which taking economy as the center. Such persistent imbalance does not meet the gradually established national goal of "five in one construction" and the long-term interests of development of university. Paying attention to the balance and coordination among different disciplines will be a strategic choice to focus on the long-term development of the country and the universities.
